At the Section IV Class D Track and Field Sectionals this past week, Emerson Comer from the South Kortright/Charlotte Valley/Andes merged team emerged victorious as an Individual Sectional Champion in the 3200 meters event and the 3000 meters Steeplechase event. On behalf of the Delaware League Superintendents and Athletic Directors, we would like to offer our congratulations to Emerson for the two victories!!! Way to go!!! As an update, at the Section IV All Class State Qualifier Meet, Emerson qualified for the NYSPHSAA Championship by winning the 3200 meters event against all competitors. On behalf of the Delaware League Superintendents and Athletic Directors, we would like to congratulate our school districts that competed in the Section IV Boys Class D Golf Sectional Tournament at the College Golf Course at SUNY Delhi in Delhi, NY this past Monday. There were 11 teams overall competing and the Delaware League Schools finished as follows: Hunter Tannersville Central School finished in 5th place, the Andes/South Kortright merged team finished in 6th place, and Gilboa Conesville Central School finished in 10th place. Individually, Grady Glennon from Hunter Tannersville Central School was the overall medalist with an even par score of 72 and his brother Gideon Glennon from Hunter Tannersville Central School finished in third place with a score of 80. Also in the top 20 was Connor Quarino from the Andes/South Kortright merged team with a score of 90 for 14th place overall. Congratulations to all of the participants!!!

On behalf of the Delaware League Superintendents and Athletic Directors, we would like to congratulate the individual accomplishments of our spring female athletes in golf. In Girls Golf at Individual Sectionals at the Soaring Eagles Golf Course in Horseheads, NY 7th grader Kate Smith from Hunter Tannersville Central School qualified for the Girls Section IV State Team with a score of 86 good for second medalist of all golfers attempting to qualify for the Girls Section IV State Team. This team will head to the Edison Golf Club in Rexford, NY for the NYSPHSAA State Tournament on June 4th and 5th, 2023. Best of luck Kate!!! 7th grader Teagan Mahoney also from Hunter Tannersville Central School finished with a score of 102 and a 12th place finish.

On behalf of the Delaware League Superintendents and Athletic Directors, we would like to congratulate the individual accomplishments of our spring male athletes in golf. In Boys Golf at Individual Sectionals at the Mark Twain Golf Club in Elmira, NY Grady Glennon from Hunter Tannersville Central School qualified for the Boys Section IV State Team with a two day total of 81-75=156, good for a tie for second medalist of all golfers attempting to qualify for the Boys Section IV State Team. For Varsity Softball the participants and seeding are Davenport #4, Gilboa Conesville #6, Windham Ashland Jewett #7, Roxbury #11, and Hunter Tannersville #12. On behalf of the Delaware League AD's and superintendents, we would like to congratulate our overall Delaware League Varsity Boys Baseball Champion, the South Kortright Rams and our overall Delaware League Varsity Girls Softball Champion, the Charlotte Valley Lady Wildcats. South Kortright defeated Charlotte Valley by a score of 5-2 in the baseball championship game, and Charlotte Valley defeated Roxbury by a score of 12-3 in the softball championship game. Both games took place in Neahwa Park in Oneonta, NY and we would like to thank the City of Oneonta, their Parks and Recreation Department, and the Parks and Recreation Department Director Louise Lansing for allowing us to use their fields and having them in great shape for us. We appreciate it so very much!!! Thank you!!!

Tomorrow on Thursday May 11th, 2023, the Delaware League will be having the Varsity Boys Baseball Championship and the Varsity Girls Softball Championship in Neahwa Park in Oneonta, NY at 4:30 PM. The baseball championship will feature regular season champion South Kortright as the home team facing off against runner up Charlotte Valley as the visitor on Field #6. The softball championship will feature regular season champion Charlotte Valley as the home team facing off against the runner up as the visitor on Ted Christman Field #6. The runner up will be decided in todays final league contest where the winner between Roxbury and Gilboa Conesville will advance to the championship game. Good luck to all four participating teams and their home school fans!!!

On behalf of the Delaware League AD's and superintendents we would like to congratulate retired Section IV Athletics Executive Director Ben Nelson on his induction into the NYSAAA Class of 2023 Hall of Fame for his outstanding contributions to Section IV and NYSPHSAA as an athletic administrator, as well as his his past coaching accomplishments throughout the years. We would also like to congratulate Section IV Regional Sports Coordinator Mike Andrew on his induction into the NYSPHSAA Class of 2023 Hall of Fame as a contributor, as well as his past coaching accomplishments and many years as Section IV Boys Soccer Coordinator, NYSPHSAA Boys State Soccer Coordinator, and chairman of the Section IV Classification Committee. We at the Delaware League thank you both for all you have done for our league and set an example of excellence we can all follow and emulate throughout your years of service. The Delaware League Individual Tennis Championships will take place this coming Wednesday May 10th, 2023 at Total Tennis in Saugerties, NY at 9:00 AM. The league will be crowning a boys singles champion, a girls singles champion, boys doubles champions, and girls doubles champions. Good luck to all of our players in this annual fun filled event which acts as a tune up for sectionals!!!

The Delaware League would like to congratulate the athletes and coaches from our league that this year are being inducted into the Section IV Hall of Fame. From the Class of 2023, the individuals are athletes David Fyfe from Jefferson Central School and Bobbi Schmitt from Jefferson Central School. Coaches are Jane McIntosh-Martin from Jefferson Central School. These individuals have proudly represented their families, schools, and communities during their time at their respective schools. Congratulations to Head Coach Aaron Kaufman and the South Kortright Rams Varsity Boys Basketball Team on an extremely successful year representing their school, families, friends, communities, the Delaware League, and Section IV proudly as they advanced to the NYSPHSAA State Tournament Class D quarterfinals before falling to Section IX Champion Chapel Field Christian by the score of 68-58. The tradition this program has is recognized throughout the area and respected as well by players, coaches, and communities alike. It is always a pleasure to see them compete and have the opportunity to go against them in all sports throughout the calendar year. Congratulations to Head Coach Aaron Kaufman and the South Kortright Rams Varsity Boys Basketball Team on their sub regional round victory in the NYSPHSAA tournament over Greenburgh-North Castle of Section I by a score of 80-55. With the win, South Kortright advances to quarterfinal play where they will face the winner of the sub regional game between Section XI Bridgehampton and Section IX Chapel Field Christian at the Visions FCU Arena in Binghamton this coming Saturday March 11th, 2023 at 1:45 PM. Congratulations to the Section IV Skiing participants led by the Windham Ashland Jewett Central School Varsity Girls Team and Varsity Boys Team. On the girls side, Windham Ashland Jewett finished in fifth place in the team competition and the Section IV girls team as a group also finished in fifth place. On the boys side, Windham Ashland Jewett finished in eighth place in the team competition and the Section IV boys team as a group also finished in eighth place. For the individual girls skiers, Piper Cohane of WIndham Ashland Jewett was the top finisher in both the slalom and giant slalom events finishing in 22nd place and 3rd place respectively. For the individual boys skiers, Ryan McVitty of Margaretville was the top finisher in the slalom event finishing in 34th place, and John Garzone of Windham Ashland Jewett was the top finisher in the giant slalom event finishing in 40th place. The Section IV Sportsmanship winners were Piper Cohane of Windham Ashland Jewett and John Garzone of WIndham Ashland Jewett. Congratulations to everyone who participated and represented the Delaware League and Section IV.

Delaware League Senior Basketball Players!!! Just a reminder that the Delaware League Senior Basketball Games are scheduled for Monday night March 6th, 2023 at Roxbury Central School with the boys game first at 5:30 PM followed by the girls game second at 6:30 PM. Please bring your white and dark uniforms as we will make teams that night before the games. You must have the signed NYSPHSAA permission slip to play in the game. No phone calls or texts if you forget the slip as it must be signed by your parent or guardian. Please arrive 45 minutes before your scheduled game time so that the coaches can make equitable teams. We expect to see you at this fun game to complete your high school career!!!
