Walton CSD junior Grace Walley made history Friday afternoon, becoming the first indoor track and field athlete to win a state championship for Walton CSD.

Grace earned the shot put championship, with a top distance of 39 feet, 11.75 inches. She topped 39 feet in three of her six attempts at the NYSPHSAA indoor track and field championships at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility on Staten Island.

Not only is Grace the first athlete to win an indoor track and field championship for the school, she's the first girl indoor or outdoor to win a state title. She's also only the second athlete to win a state championship, following Gregg Sawdy's outdoor state title in the shot put (56-3) in 1992.

What a great achievement! Way to go, Grace!
