Rockets softball shuts out Wildcats for DL championship

ONEONTA - Roxbury Rockets softball defeated the Gilboa-Conesville Wildcats 14-0 on Thursday, May 12 to win the Delaware League championship at Neahwa Park.
In the first inning, the Rockets took an early lead sending three runners home for a 3-0 score. In the second inning, Roxbury continued to slug hits to grow their lead to 8-0. In the third inning, Roxbury’s pitcher, Bryanna Meehan, continued throwing strikes keeping the Wildcats scoreless.
The Rockets added another run in the third inning to go up 9-0. In the fourth inning, neither team was able to get a runner home. The Rockets’ offense picked back up in the fifth inning with three more runs as they ran away with the score at 12-0.
In the sixth inning, the Rockets added two more insurance runs to jump their lead to 14-0. The Wildcats were unable to get on the board allowing the Rockets a shutout victory, winning 14-0.
Roxbury’s Bryanna Meehan finished with 13 strikeouts in the circle. Brianna Cross added five RBIs. Kylie Demaio, Lacey German, and Ryleigh Goodchild all contributed three runs apiece to the Rockets’ victory.
G-C’s Kara Dumas led her team with a double and a triple. Olivia Ross earned two walks while Olena Kucher and Anna Tompkins both contributed two hits for the Wildcats.
