ONEONTA - Roxbury Rockets Girls Soccer defeated the Margaretville Blue Devils 6-0 on Saturday, Oct. 16 in theDelaware League Championship Title game.


The Blue Devils started the game shorthanded with only ten players due to some injuries. Still scoreless between Roxbury and Margaretville around the ten-minute mark. The Blue Devils adjusted their player set up to account for being a player down, they had a defender close to the backline to keep Roxbury in control. Roxbury was able to take a 1-0 lead over Margaretville when Myah Johnston’s kick found the back of the net. The Rockets continued to put a
lot of pressure on the Blue Devils goalie in the final 20 minutes of the first half. That pressure leads to a 2-0 lead for Roxbury over Margaretville as Johnston launches her second goal of the half. The Rockets found their rhythm late in the half. Roxbury took a 2-0 advantage over Margaretville into the break. The Blue Devils were down another player with a first-half injury. Margaretville started the second half down three players with only eight available. One injury
was to the starting goalie moving Netalia Herrera into the net. The Blue Devils wanted to continue playing in the second half no matter what, so they powered through.


Roxbury added to their lead early in the second half with another goal to take a 3-0 lead over Margaretville. A few minutes later Roxbury struck again to grow their lead to 4-0 coming up on the midway mark of the second half. Roxbury started to take over the short-handed Margaretville when Kylie Demaio scored on a strong kick to the net. Roxbury pushed their lead to 6-0 over Margaretville as Leigha Lalosh powers in a goal for the Rockets with just
under fifteen minutes remaining. The Blue Devils were short-handed but they continued to fight until the final whistle.


Roxbury went on to win 6-0 for the 2021 Delaware League Soccer Championship Title.


Myah Johnston and Cortnea both finished with 2 goals each to lead the Rockets. Kylie Demaio added 1 goal and 1 assist. Leigha Lalosh also contributed a goal in her team’s victory.


Roxbury is the 5th seed in Sectionals and hosts Charlotte Valley today, Wednesday Oct. 20. Margaretville will host Cherry Valley/Springfield as a 6th seed today, Wednesday, Oct. 20.
