South Kortright boys soccer team celebrates their 2021 Delaware League championship after a 4-2 win over Margaretville on Saturday.

ONEONTA - South Kortright (SK) Rams Boys Soccer defeated the Margaretville Blue Devils 4-2 in the Delaware League Championship Title game on Saturday, Oct 16.


SK jumped out to a 2-0 lead over Margaretville with two early goals. One goal off a Jadyn Sturniolo rocket and the other coming off Logan Firment’s kick to the back of the net. The Rams came out aggressive and it paid off for the lead. The Blue Devils answered back with a goal of their own by Ryan Mcvitty, cleared up a rebound, and knocked it in. Cutting the Rams lead to 2-1 just past the midway point of the first half. Margaretville had all the momentum late in the first half and they tied the game at 2-2 against SK. Michael Gavette gets his team’s second goal of the game for the late first-half tie. It was a tied game at 2-2 headed into halftime.


In the second half, SK took back the lead over Margaretville early, Jacob Morton finished a corner kick from Jadyn Sturniolo giving the Rams a 3-2 lead. Things began to pick up on scoring chances but neither team was able to connect. SK held a 3-2 advantage over Margaretville with just under ten minutes left. Connor Quarino kicks a low shot that just slips through the goalie’s hands and rolls in.

The Rams were in control leading 4-2 with around five minutes left in the game. SK held on to defeat Margaretville 4-2 winning the 2021 Delaware League Championship Title. This was a rematch of an earlier season game between the two where the Rams were unable to get a victory unlike now.


This DL title game wins today for SK continued their streak of having at least a share of the league soccer title every starting back in 2014. They have also appeared in the contest every year straight since 2006.


The Rams’ Jadyn Sturniolo, Logan Firment, Jacob Morton, and Connor Quarino all finished with 1 goal. Jadyn Sturniolo also added an assist for the SK victory. 

Margaretville’s Ryan Mcvitty and Michael Gavette both added a goal for the Blue Devils.

SK is the 2nd seed in Sectionals where they have a first-round bye, then they host a second-round matchup against TBD on Friday, Oct. 22. The Blue Devils also have a bye in the first round as the 5th ranked, they travel to Cherry Valley/Springfield in the second round on Friday, Oct. 22.
