Stamford/Jefferson Claims Delaware League Title, Ends SK/A’s Championship Run
DELHI - A championship nearly a generation in the making finally belongs to Stamford/Jefferson. On Saturday Feb. 21, Stamford/Jefferson defeated South Kortright/Andes 52-39 to capture the 2026 Delaware League Girls Basketball Championship securing the first league title in Jefferson Central School history and the first Delaware League crown for Stamford Central since the early 2000’s. Stamford/Jefferson leaned on a dominant interior performance from McKenna Hoyt, who finished with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Hoyt controlled the paint on both ends, converting second-chance opportunities and limiting South Kortright/Andes to one shot on key possessions. Tierney Turner added 11 points and seven rebounds, providing steady scoring and defensive pressure, while Rose Bevilacqua contributed 7 points and 11 rebounds to anchor the glass. South Kortright/Andes, meanwhile, entered the game with a resume unmatched in recent league history. The Rams were making their 18th consecutive appearance in the league championship game. They had won 15 straight titles and 16 of the last 17, establishing one of the most sustained runs in Delaware League history. Carlee Dropp led SK/A with 14 points. Lexi Hendrickson, Alyssa Tucker, and Kennedy Quarino each added six points, but the Rams were unable to generate enough offense against a disciplined Stamford/Jefferson defense.
